Stormoprene Usage Instructions
Stormoprene User Instructions
Please note that as repair needs and methods can vary, these instructions must be taken as usage guidance. Your repair may require fewer or more steps than are outlined in this leaflet.
Part 1: For Use of Part A Only
1. Surface Preparation: Clean the Area
Ensure the surface to be repaired is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or any loose particles. Use a cloth or brush to remove debris.
Tip: For best adhesion to rubber, lightly abrade the surface with sandpaper to remove the oxidized layer and create a rougher texture for stronger bonding. For Hypalon®, refer to the ‘For Use with Hypalon’ instructions.
2. Positioning the Repair: Align the Surfaces
If you’re repairing a rip, carefully bring the edges together so they sit edge to edge in their original position. Avoid stretching or overlapping the material. Take your time to ensure the alignment is natural and accurate.
Patching a Hole: If you’re repairing a hole, a patch of a suitable material is needed. Ensure the patch fully covers the hole with a generous overlap for a strong bond.
3. Apply Adhesive: Applying the Adhesive
Apply a thin, even layer of Stormoprene® to both surfaces using a spatula. Allow it to dry until touch-dry (10–15 minutes), then apply a second coat. Once the second coat is also touch-dry, press the surfaces together firmly.
Coverage: Ensure the adhesive covers the full patch and extends beyond the damaged area with a generous overlap for a secure, long-lasting bond.
4. Curing: Allow Adhesive to Cure
Stormoprene® develops initial strength instantly and cures fully in 24–48 hours. Cure time may vary depending on the size of the repair and temperature. To ensure a strong, reliable bond, keep the repair dry and undisturbed throughout the curing period.
5. Inspection: Check the Repair
After curing, inspect the area to ensure the bond is strong and all edges are fully sealed. Gently flex to confirm the repair is secure.
6. Repair Complete
Your repair is now flexible, waterproof, and ready for use. Inspect the area to confirm it looks smooth and solid. If everything appears secure, the item can be returned to normal use.
Part 2: For Use with Hypalon® (Part B)
When repairing Hypalon® with Stormoprene®, Part B (the activator) is essential. It chemically boosts the adhesive’s performance, allowing it to bond effectively to Hypalon®’s tough, non-porous surface. Without the activator, the adhesive may not achieve the strength or durability needed for a long-lasting repair on Hypalon® materials.
1. Surface Preparation
To prepare a Hypalon® surface for repair with Stormoprene®, first mark the repair area, allowing at least 2–3 cm of overlap around the damage. Lightly abrade both the repair area and the back of the patch using sandpaper to improve the adhesion. Wipe away any dust and debris with a clean, dry cloth, and ensure the surface is completely dry.
Tip: Rounding the corners of the patch helps prevent the corners catching and peeling up.
2. Mixing Part B
When using Stormoprene® on Hypalon®, Part B (the activator) must be mixed into Part A before application. Use a ratio of 25 parts adhesive to 1 part activator by weight. Mix thoroughly until fully combined. Adding the activator reduces the usable life of the adhesive, so mixing in small batches is recommended. Apply it as soon as possible after mixing. This ensures proper curing and a strong, long-lasting bond to Hypalon®.
3. Apply Adhesive
Apply a thin, even layer of Stormoprene® to both surfaces using a spatula. Allow it to dry until touch-dry, typically 10–15 minutes, then apply a second coat. Once the second coat is also touch-dry, align the surfaces and press them together firmly.
4. Curing
Stormoprene® develops initial strength instantly and cures fully in 48 hours. Cure time may vary depending on the size of the repair and temperature. To ensure a strong, reliable bond, keep the repair dry and undisturbed throughout the curing period.
5. Inspection
Once cured, check the repair to ensure the bond is strong and all edges are properly sealed. Gently flex the area to confirm the repair is secure.
Note: We strongly recommend patch testing all repair products on a concealed area to ensure compatibility.
